Scott was killed by a DRUNK DRIVER.
Scott? He is my brother, Andrea and Gus' son, Brenda's husband, Mike's brother, Vance and Nicolas' father, and a friend to MANY.
He was at the prime of his life . . . a father of two great kids . . . "Nick" and Vance, and he and Brenda were just about to take a trip to New Mexico to look for a new home.
On December 12, 1998, a man who had spent too much time drinking too much alcohol chose to get behind the wheel to take him self home. At 10:30p Scott, who had pulled off the road to change a tire, was struck by this man . . . over an hour after the authorities arrived at the scene, Scott had yet to be found. Struck so hard by a vehicle that was going so fast, Scott was thrown too far to be found. Once he was found, pronounced DEAD AT THE SCENE. He Never had a chance to fight.
Two days later, after identifying the body, my sister-in-law was contacted, in person, by the Riverside County Coroner with the news. I was then contacted, and had a job to do one I never thought "I" would EVER be asked to do. "I" had to call my own parents to tell them what had happened.
Scott was so crumbled that we were not even allowed to see him before burying him. Closure has yet to be found.
If I only knew that Thanksgiving of last year was the last time that I'd see him, I'd would of stayed up all night talking and laughing. Instead, now, due to ONE man's stupid decision to drive while "SO INEBRIATED that he didn’t even know that he hit someone" (quoted from the Police Report) Scott is dead. Gone.
Why? We have so many choices. This man could have taken a cab. This man could have called a friend. But, instead, he made the selfish decision to take that chance. He walked away with a few scratches........WE all have wounds that are much deeper that may take a lifetime to heal. I feel for Scott's wife and children.........and for his parents, my parents.

WE ALL need to join together. We all NEED to STOP this senseless crime. It is 100% avoidable, and there is NO reason to DRIVE DRUNK.
"We miss you Scott. We are going back to court in just two more weeks, and hopefully, we will see the DRUNK DRIVER who killed you go to jail. I wish that I at least could talk to you........just one more time. If you can hear me, let me know. Vance is learning to talk....and knows who you are because of all of the pictures that we have, and all of the videos that Brenda shows with you in them. Your sense of humor is needed here.
I wish you were going to be here this coming holiday season. Marty and I bought a house in Fullerton. I know how much you love that city."
On behalf of Scott, his wife and children, and all of the family, I will work to try to educate the people. To try and put a stop to DRUNK DRIVING.
